I bounce back with a band recommendation!
I have a real soft spot for early 1960s British pop/Merseybeat/folk-rock influenced indie pop bands, and This is Ivy League is a welcome addition to the fold. The Brooklyn, NY based band consists of the duo of Alex Suarez and Ryland Blackinton. The pair has been working together as a band since 2006, and their EP London Bridges was released that same year. Also available is their self titled debut LP which is available now on Twenty Seven Records.
Their sound possesses that same type of delicate and polished pop sensibility that bands like Belle & Sebastian have embraced for years, and they handle their retro sensibilities every bit as well. Their choirboy harmonies and chiming acoustic guitars should make influences like Simon and Garfunkle quite proud of this pair's efforts.
